James Morrison has a voice like a tumble-dried mix of Steve Winwood, Otis Redding, rock rebel Rod Stewart and a young Stevie Wonder — and he has to be one of the most exciting young stars of our time.
Talented and highly entertaining, his voice ranges from soft and mellow, to raspy, unshaven and full of emotional late night blues.
He plays with the lyrics, at times running the risk of falling over the edge because his voice is young, untrained and inexperienced but this adds to the raw, unpolished charm of his music.
He benefits on one or two numbers from some skilful backing, but to me he is at his best on his own? just him and his guitar, just the way he first appeared on stage not that many moons ago.
This deluxe edition of this double platinum album, 'Songs For You, Truths For Me' features all the numbers on the existing album plus the bonus of two new tracks, 'Get To You' and 'On The Same Side'.
But to me the real highlight of this music bundle is the second disc which is an acoustic duplication of songs such as 'You Make It Real' and the soppy life lesson, 'Once When I was Little'.
On the acoustic album he also does an outstanding remake of Michael Jackson's 'Man in The Mirror'
There are 21 songs on the two discs, every one of them a class act. James Morrison is fresh, new and heading for the stars and I can't wait for his next album.
