If you are desperate for your 'Idols' fix, catch Sasha-Lee in action at the Silverstar Casino in Pretoria on Saturday night. Sasha-Lee will be performing with the 2008 winner Jody and runner-up Munro. It's an Idols Reunion that mustn't be missed. Cover charge is R130, and doors open at 8pm.
One of South Africa's legendary rock groups Just Jinjer will be headline Klipdrift's Battle of the Bands final at the Big Top Arena in Carnival City on Saturday night. Catch Scintillate along with the four finalists in a showcase of some of the best South Africa can offer. Cover charge is R140, doors open at 7pm.
Catch Zebra and Giraffe, Desmond & the Tutus, kidofdoom and Sibot as part of the Urban Electric festival at The Woods in Newton on Saturday night. And that's just the main stage! With the backing of MTV and Jose Cuervo this night will be rocking! Cover is R90 and the magic begins at 2pm. Come prepared for 14 hours of indie rock, dance and electro.
"Doo be doo be doo"? I have it stuck in my head already! Radio favourites Freshlyground will treat fans to a selection of their biggest hits of their multi-platinum albums Nomvula and Ma'Cheri. Head on over to the Cheyenne Saloon at The Carousel Casino on Friday July 31. Doors open at 7.30 pm and the music starts at 9pm. Tickets are R100 and available from Computicket.
Catch Karen Zoid, Bok van Blerk, Dozi and Lianie May at the Old Mutual Encounter at Emmarentia Dam in the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens for a fun-filled family day. Gates open at 12pm and tickets are R50 pre-sold from www.tunegum.com or R100 at the gate. Please note no braais are allowed, and alcohol, bottles and cans are not to be brought into the venue.
Art, stage and comedy
Catch Footloose - one of the best-loved musicals of all time at The Mandela at the Johannesburg Theatre this weekend. Shows at 8pm on Friday and Saturday, 3pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. Tickets are R161 and can be booked at Computicket.
Need a laugh? The Tshwane Comedy Show will feature some of South Africa's most acclaimed comedians. Shows start at 8pm on Friday and Saturday at the SA State Theatre and tickets are R70. No under 13s. Book through Computicket.
Fred Khumalo's Touch My Blood has made its way to the stage. Adapted by James Ncgobo, this show brings to life the extraordinary lives of gangsters during times of political upheaval. Shows are at 8pm on Friday and Saturday and 3pm on Sunday. Tickets are R80 and available at Computicket. Head on down to the Market Theatre.
