Ridley Scott is in negotiations to direct a remake of the U.K. miniseries 'Red Riding', and Steve Zaillian to write the script, after Columbia Pictures acquired rights for the project. The mini series was based on four novels by David Peace.

According to Variety, the miniseries is "a study of power and police corruption framed around the investigation of the disappearance of several young girls. For the pic, the setting will be transferred from Britain to the U.S. The mini clocked in at more than five hours, so Zaillian and Scott have their work cut out for them to compress it into one film."

Scott is set to produce the film through his Scott Free company, with help from Zaillian and his Film Rites banner. This will also be the third time that Scott and Zaillian work together, as they previously collaborated on the films 'American Gangster' and 'Hannibal'.
