Snow Patrol score 4.5/5

We all remember the moment; watching the season two finale of 'Grey's Anatomy' so many years ago. The actual scene became far less important, as all that mattered was that amazing song playing in the background. That was the moment when Snow Patrol really broke out onto the forefront of the global music market, with a little song called 'Chasing Cars'.

Now a favourite in every karaoke bar from here to Timbuktu, 'Chasing Cars' has more than a few contenders to wrestle with on Snow Patrol?s new killer of an album, 'A Hundred Million Suns'.

The big question is whether this album can live up to its 2006 predecessor, 'Eyes Open', bearing in mind it was the UK?s best seller that year. But there is no doubt about it; 'A Hundred Million Suns' is amazing.

From the first song, through to the closing melody of the last track, Snow Patrol have created a musical indulgence, combining softer soundtrack songs, like 'Set Down Your Glass', with solid alternative radio hits like 'Take Back The City'.

For those who liked Snow Patrol for more than just 'Chasing Cars', there's 'The Lightning Strike', an ambitious 16-minute, three-part magical and lyrically inspiring journey. As Gary Lightbody cries: "The sunlight burning through loose flags, painted high on white church walls/ I chase my blood from brain to thumped heart/ Until I?m out of breath for trying" it becomes clear that this band is not afraid to let the intensity of their music take over the minds of their listeners.

To choose the best song is an impossible task, one doesn't even know where to begin. Let?s just say, if 'Crack the Shutters' is not the next big hit it will be a surprise to say the very least. With the beauty contained in songs like 'Lifeboats' and 'The Planets Between Us' and the power of 'If There?s A Rocket Tie Me To It', this Glasgow quintet has made an album that can uplift and inspire, make you reflect and reminisce.

It truly would take A Hundred Million Suns to get tired of this record.
