Jordin Sparks scores 3/5

After winning the sixth season of 'American Idol' in 2007 at the ripe old age of 17, Jordin Sparks released a successful debut album later that year, which went on to sell nearly two million copies worldwide.

This second album is a mix of pop, soul and R&B that's solid enough to outsell her debut effort and push Sparks towards the heights achieved by the first US Idol, Kelly Clarkson.

The 19-year old Sparks has a powerful voice that's used to perfect, dramatic effect ? if you like big, vocal pop, that is. The first single, 'Battlefield', is already a hit on radio stations around the world (including here at home), providing a suitably big playground for Sparks's impressive voice.

'Battlefield' was co-written and produced by OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, the creative force behind Leona Lewis' massive 2008 anthem 'Bleeding Love', and Beyonce's gorgeous hit earlier this year, 'Halo' ? and although Tedder is already developing a "signature sound", 'Battlefield' is still fresh enough to be interesting.

'S.O.S. (Let the Music Play)' is being lined up as the second single, and the Rihanna-esque sound of this dancefloor filler should ensure another hit from an album that's loaded with potential singles.
