Beyonce scores 4/5

There's a reason the fabulous Ms Beyonce Knowles was ranked the number one female artist of the 00's by the USA's Billboard magazine — and this phenomenal live set makes it clear she's only warming up her game.

The show — recorded during a four-night "intimate engagement" at a Las Vegas casino — is split into two halves, the first made up of slow, introspective hits, the second made up of the faster, bigger, louder and dancier hits that propelled Beyonce to worldwide fame.

Depending on which side of the artist you prefer, you'll love either the vocally-driven first half, or the over-the-top dance-driven second half (if you love both sides of B, even better — then this DVD's definitely for you).

Personally, I found the first half a bit sketchy, her gorgeous hits 'Halo', 'If I Were a Boy', 'Irreplaceable' and 'Dangerously in Love' surrounded by too many fillers from her previous two albums (though if you've always wanted to hear forgettable tracks like 'Satellites' and 'That's Why You're Beautiful' sung live, add another star to the rating).

But if you start nodding off after too many slow fillers, brace yourself for when B announces "OK, we've done the slow stuff... now we're gonna have a party!", because that's when this DVD moves from two-star to four-star.

Beyonce approaches "Female Michael Jackson" status as she sashays her way through her biggest hits — literally telling her life story through various songs, starting with the song she and her band Destiny's Child sang at their first audition (as nine-year-olds), through her Destiny's Child years and finally her solo hits (starting in 2002 with 'Work it Out' and progressing to 2003's raucous 'Crazy in Love').

Unless you've already made up your mind to completely ignore her, this DVD could win over even the most hardened hater. Brace yourself for another decade of Beyonce uber-alles!
