Janet Jackson score 4/5

She may have lost her mojo in recent years, but when Janet was good, she was really good — and this two-disc set is an ear-boggling reminder of Ms Jackson (if you?re nasty)'s string of hits throughout the 80s, 90s, and first half of the 00s.

Released under the title 'Number Ones' in America, the 35 tracks (including the only new track recorded for this release, 'Make Me') have all hit number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, Dance or R&B chart.

If you were ever a Janet, pop, or dance fan during her heyday, this collection will take you on a fun trip down memory lane — back to her earliest hits (the cute-and-chubby years: 'What Have You Done For Me Lately', 'Nasty', 'When I Think Of You'), those 'Rhythm Nation' chartbusters (the military dance vixen years: 'Miss You Much' and the anthemic title track 'Rhythm Nation'), and those 1993 'janet.' hits that turned her into a global superstar (the sex kitten years: 'That's The Way Love Goes', 'If', 'Any Time, Any Place').

By the time the 00s arrived, she erred too much on the side of cheesy pop (the ad jingle-soundalike 'All For You'), but still showed she could light up a dance floor with the best of them (the sexy 'All Nite (Don't Stop)').

The three post-2004 tracks included are each yawn-worthy in their own way, but the rest of this solid collection make this a must-have for fans ? and will make you long for the day Ms Janet gets her groove back.
