On August 26 many a fan will raise a glass and drink a toast to one of the most talented and gifted singers of the eighties, Laura Branigan, who died suddenly six years ago from a brain aneurysm.
This album features 10 DVD's and 18 of her best and most popular songs, including the deeply moving and all the more poignant 'How Am I Supposed To Live Without You' because she spent two years of her life at the bedside of her husband, watching him slowly dying of cancer.
Anybody who ventured on to a dance floor in any part of the world during the eighties will also remember her massive best-seller, 'Gloria', which is a featured number in this collection.
And yes, 'Spanish Eddie', 'Ti Amore' and 'Self Control' are there, along with the 'Power of Love', 'Didn't We Almost Win It All' and 'Forever Young'.
Such was the appeal of this great star that her record sales crashed through the 10 million barrier and a substantial proportion of that came about when she re-entered the music world in 2001 with the release of digitally remastered 'The Essentials', followed by the releases of remixes such as 'Self Control 2004' and 'Gloria 2004'.
In 2006 there followed the release in the UK of 'The Platinum Collection' and a year later it was the turn of 'The Best of Branigan?' and still more followed with re-issues of 'Touch', 'Laura Branigan', and 'Over My Heart'.
'Shine On: The Ultimate Collection' is another fitting tribute to her wonderful talent so go and buy the album, watch the DVD of her doing 'Didn't We Almost Win It All' and then tell me you didn't have a lump in your throat when you listened to her sing?
