Sir Paul McCartney has revealed he is keen to a land a residency in the UK.

The Beatles legend's current tour finishes at London's O2 arena tomorrow and the musician has hinted he is considering an extended run of shows at the venue. The 67-year-old star enjoys performing live and would love to follow in the footsteps of Prince and Britney Spears by taking up a residency at The O2.

"I quite fancy the idea," McCartney told Absolute Radio. "Last time I ever did that was when The Beatles used to do Christmas shows, and it was brilliant because you would be there for a week or two. It was fantastic, just dossing in your overcoat and everything."

McCartney had hoped to play more dates in the UK while promoting his album 'Good Evening New York City', but had to settle for just one in England. The tour has taken him to Germany, France and Ireland, but the British star originally wanted to perform for fans nearer to home.

He explained: "I came back from America and a lot of people said, 'Oh, I hear you've been to America, are you doing any British dates?' I said, 'No', and they said, 'Oh, why not?'

"So I rung my promoter and said, 'Hey, can we do some English dates and can we play maybe Scotland?'

"He had a brilliant idea of the Union Jack Tour, it was going to be Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, but he couldn't get the availability at such short notice."

Bon Jovi will begin their residency at the O2 arena next June.
