August Coppola — father of Nicolas Cage and brother of Francis Ford Coppola — has died at the age of 75 from a heart attack.

He was San Francisco State University's dean of creative arts.

Cage's spokesperson, Annett Wolf, confirmed the news.

Coppola is survived by sons Christopher and Marc and six grandchildren.

The 1983 film 'Rumble Fish' was dedicated to him and, according to IMDb, he was a "member of the jury at the Berlin International Film Festival 1986 and Dean emeritus of San Francisco State University's Creative Arts department where the 150-seat August Coppola Theatre was created in his honour. The state-of-the-art facility is a self-contained film production studio."
