As world leaders gather at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Time Magazine has bestowed a dubious honour on President Jacob Zuma ? an honour that places him alongside some of the world's more controversial leaders ? Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Il, Muammar Gaddafi, Hugo Chavez and Mahmoud Ahmadinead.
Yes, Jacob Zuma has cracked the worst-dressed list. What cinched the deal? His personalised ANC leather jacket. Always a favourite among left-wing South African politicians, Zuma has taken the ubiquitous leather jacket to a new level.
Embellished with the ANC colours ? yellow, green and black ? and logo, the jacket puts Zuma alongside the world's most sartorially challenged.
Joining him on the list are: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who is notorious for shedding his shirt; Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is never without his $30 Chinese-made khaki windbreaker (affectionately known as the Ahmadinejacket); Hugo Chavez, who always dons red (just in case anyone forgets his socialist agenda); and Muammar Gaddafi, whose brightly coloured silk drapes are matched only by his flamboyant leadership.
While Zuma's jackets may have caused snickering in the Time office, they're a hit back home amongst the ANC faithful. You can pick up a replica ? aptly named 'President No. 1' ? for a staggering R1620... further proof that money can't buy taste.
