Apricot season is around the corner and once again De Krans Wine Cellar in Calitzdop is offering visitors to the area the chance to pick their own apricots at the farm. De Krans is already famous for their Hanepoot picking which takes place during February and March each year, and this year visitors will get the opportunity to pick deliciously sweet Bulida apricots from 25 November until 5 December, every day (except Sundays) from 08h00 until 16h00.
The apricots cost R3.50 per kg and visitors are welcome to bring their own containers. Alternatively containers can be purchased at De Krans at a minimal cost.
Picking apricots can lead to visitors working up a hefty appetite. Once again Vygieshof Home for the Aged will offer delicious braaivleis on 25 and 28 November and then again on 2 and 5 December at De Krans. Visitors are requested to book for these meals beforehand as they have proven to be extremely popular in the past.
Besides picking your own apricots, a visit to De Krans, the Champion Cellar of the 2009 Southern Cape Bottled Wine Show, also affords you the opportunity to sample a range of 2009 award-winning wines. One of these is the De Krans Pink Port which is the colour of a blushing bride, and won gold at 2009 Michelangelo Wine Awards.
