At the end of October, we reported that a blind man was the first Volvo non-employee to get his hands on the new S60. That man is Turkish artist Esref Armagan, who is renowned for his unique feel for perspective and shape. He helped the Swedish firm tease people around the world with partial glimpses of the resculpted S60.

Now Volvo has released the first official photos of this all-new sedan, which it describes as "the most dynamic and aggressive Volvo to date".

The S60, due for launch in South Africa in late 2010, is designed to bring a new level of elegance and dynamism to the Volvo line-up.

Volvo Cars president and CEO Stephen Odell says: "The all-new Volvo S60 is sculpted to move you. It looks and drives like no other Volvo before and the car's technology will help you to be safer and more confident behind the wheel."

The Volvo S60 can be equipped with 'pedestrian detection' - a groundbreaking safety feature that can detect pedestrians in front of the car and brake automatically if the driver does not react in time.

The car will be unveiled to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in early March next year. Production of the sporty sedan model will start in mid-2010 at the Volvo Cars plant in Ghent, Belgium.

"Customers in this segment want emotional appeal, sporty design and dynamic driving properties. The S60 has it all. We are convinced that it will be one of the strongest contenders around," says Odell.
