Fiat has called its all-new offering the Punto Emotion 1.4i in the hope that the vehicle's features and pricing will evoke tears of joy from potential buyers who want more for less.

The Emotion, which even Fiat admits is visually identical to the Grande Punto five-door, is designed to offer "a quality, well-specced, family-oriented yet affordable hatch".

It is powered by Fiat?s 1.4-lite "FIRE" engine, which puts out 66kW at 6000rpm and peak torque of 115Nm at 4500rpm. Being a little on the light side of the power band, it claims a top speed of 165km/h and a 0-to-100km/h sprint of 15.72 seconds. Combined fuel consumption is a claimed 7.3l/100km.

Drive-by-wire

The Emotion has a drive-by-wire throttle and engine compression has been increased to deliver more torque at lower speeds and so reduce fuel consumption.

Fiat says the vehicle has been fully equipped and as standard includes power steering, audio controls on the steering wheel, Bluetooth mobile phone system, CD/MP3 player, remote central locking, power windows, electric mirrors, automatic climate control, height-adjustable driver?s seat and 60-40 split rear seats

The only added cost option is metallic paint, which will add R1184 to the sticker.

Safety features includes dual front crash bags, ABS, fire prevention system, a rolling-code immobiliser and a system that reminds you when the Emotion is due for a service
