The Cadillac STS, the flagship of the range, has arrived in South Africa following the introduction of the BLS and SRX models during the first quarter of 2007.

Unmistakeably Cadillac in appearance, the shape of the STS is accented by horizontal spline lines, vertically stacked headlamps, and LED tail lights. Features that distinguish this top-of-the-range model from other family members are its ?doors-into-roof? construction, lower roof line, lower sculpted bonnet line, smoothed wheel arches and a tight wheel-to-body ratio.

Nine-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels add a hint of aggression and show off the high performance brake callipers that nestle behind them. An electro-polished stainless steel mesh lower grille provides an additional performance accent for the front view.

The Cadillac STS is fitted with the 4.6-litre ?Northstar? engine — the most advanced compact V8 in the General Motors range. Producing 239 kW with maximum torque of 425Nm through a six-speed automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control this is able to propel the STS from rest to 100 km/h in a claimed 6.2 seconds and to a top speed of 250 km/h.

The all-wheel independent suspension features Magnetic Ride Control that continuously adapts each individual damper to prevailing conditions.

The Cadillac STS is fitted with six airbags while electronic driver aids in the safety suite include ABS with Brake Assist as well as Panic Brake Assist (PBA). The braking system also features Dynamic Rear Brake Proportioning to assist in optimising stopping distances and vehicle control under varying load conditions.

Standard features include keyless access with push-button start, cruise control, heated leather steering wheel, dual zone automatic climate control, eight-way adjustable power front seats with memory (two presets), and an eight-speaker Bose sound system. Leather trim is available in either cashmere, light grey or ebony colours. The wood trim package is formed from real Sapele Pommele wood. Both front seats are heated.

The interior features materials and surfaces like dent and mark resistant in-mould processed aluminium, as well as real wood finishes on the steering wheel, centre console, instrument panel and door armrests. The doors and instrument panel feature natural grained surfaces and the roof liner and interior pillars covered with soft Monaco woven fabric. The STS features analogue instrumentation that is defined by bright accents. An electrochromatic (light-sensitive) auto dimming interior rear view mirror is a standard feature.

In the words of the vehicle chief engineer for Cadillac, David Leone: ?Our goal with the STS interior, in keeping with the philosophy of the entire vehicle, was to strike just the right balance between luxury and performance attributes. We incorporated a number of high-technology features in an interior design that is both contemporary and inviting.?
