American cars no longer look like boxes on wheels - thanks to concepts like Cadillac CTS Coupe.
It's the latest concept from the company that gave us the Evoq in the late '90s, the Cien in 2003 and the recent Provoq crossover concept. The CTS coupe continues Cadillac's design renaissance.
Vice President of General Motors Global Design, Ed Welburn describes the CTS coupe concept as emotion on four wheels. Although derived from the CTS saloon, the coupe concept has its own unique allure. It is lower and more muscular looking, partly thanks to the massive wheels, 20 inch in the front and 21 inch in the rear bearing chrome seven spoke rims. Hidden door handles as seen on the XLR complete the sleek sporty exterior profile.
The interior features a classic 2 + 2 layout highlighted by black leather and microfibre trim that is complemented by yellow ochre-coloured inserts with matching leather stitching. Armrest, Bose sound system, 40 gigabyte hard drive and an onboard navigation system with a VGA screen that rises out of the instrument panel are some of the interior features available on the coupe model.
A variety of powerful engine options including the popular 229kW 3.6-litre direct injection V-6 powerplant are on the cards. The new 2.9-litre turbo diesel engine with 184kW and approximately 550Nm on tap, currently in development, may also become an option on the CTS coupe.
"The CTS coupe concept is the next great design, carrying the baton from the Evoq concept that ushered in the Art and Science era in 1999," reckons Clay Dean, Cadillac?s Global Design Director.
