Question:
I'm going to university next year, but don't yet have a clear idea of what I want to do.
What careers are there in banking and what should one study in order to follow those careers?
Answer:
Banking has changed significantly in recent years. Today, bankers spend more time talking to clients than they do counting the cash.
While there are several different career opportunities available, the ideal candidates are energetic, confident and natural communicators with a passion for client service. Positions in specialised fields such as IT, human resources and management also exist within a bank.
Numeracy and computer skills are vital to make a success of banking. But good written and verbal communication abilities, planning and organisational skills, strong client service and administrative orientation are equally required. Some banks use technology efficiently to take care of much of the back-office and administrative functions, freeing up its people to spend more time talking to their clients.
