Finance Union Sasbo is "satisfied" with Teba Bank's undertaking to stop "coercing" staff, it said on Friday.

The union had approached the Johannesburg Labour Court for an urgent interdict against the bank to stop it trying to force its staff to accept proposed changes to terms and conditions of employment, or face retrenchment by March 1.

"Essentially the union had asked the court to prohibit and stop the bank from unfairly and unduly pressurising their employees to accept changes to terms and conditions of employment that would drastically reduce employees' take home pay, to compel the bank to return to the collective bargaining process in terms of the recognition agreement between the parties, and to stop the bank from unfairly dismissing those employees who do not agree to the changes," the union's national secretary Myan Soobramoney said in a statement.

Teba subsequently agreed to certain undertakings that were made an order of the court. The bank undertook to meet the union on Monday to talk about the matter, as per a recognition agreement.

"I am satisfied, given the bank's undertakings, made an order of the court, that we can urgently resume negotiations on the matter, which I believe is in the best interests of both parties."
