The embezzlement cases against J Arthur Brown, former chief executive of the Fidentia group, were postponed to 16 March in the Cape Town Regional Court on Friday.

Two of the cases, one involving the Fundi and Infinity investment groups and the other involving the Transport, Education and Training Authority (Teta), are expected to be referred to the Cape High Court for trial at the next hearing.

The court would also consider the third case, involving the Antheru Trust.

"The case has been postponed to 16 March in the Regional Court in Cape Town for consolidation of the two cases against Mr Brown and a High Court date," a spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority said.

In December the state was given leave to appeal a Cape Town magistrate's decision to grant R10 000 bail to Brown in the Antheru Trust case in October 2008.

Brown has been charged in that matter with fraud of some R700 000, which carries a potential 15-year minimum jail sentence.

The state argued that Brown was a flight risk and should be taken back into custody.

The appeal case against the granting of bail will be heard in the Cape Town High Court on 12 March.
