Paris, Britney are fashion shockers

Paris Hilton and Britney Spears now have even more in common — the hotel heiress and the pop star have topped the "Worst Dressed Women List" issued annually by Mr Blackwell.

In his 47th annual list, the former fashion designer called the pair, who became friends on the Las Vegas and Hollywood party scene last year "style-free and fashion deprived".

Spears, who famously wore flimsy clothing and no underwear while out partying after her separation from husband Kevin Federline, and Hilton were dubbed the "Screamgirls" and described as "two peas in an over-exposed pod".

Following the 20-something starlets was Camilla Parker-Bowles, wife of Prince Charles. The member of the royal family, who came in at number two, was branded "The Duchess of Dowdy".

"In feathered hats that were once the rage, she resembles a petrified parakeet from the Jurassic age," he added.

"A royal wreck."

Coming up in third was Lindsay Lohan, the 20-year-old star of films like 'Mean Girls', who, according to Blackwell, has only recently become a fashion disaster.

The critic of celebrity fashion criticised the actress for going "from adorable to deplorable" and for being "tragically trapped in fashion's fast lane".

Christina Aguilera, a "dazzling singer" came in fourth place for putting "good taste through the wardrobe wringer".

"All crass and no class," he concluded.

Another singer, Mariah Carey, hit the fifth spot. Calling her "Mariah the fashion pariah", he described the diva with a penchant for too-tight clothing as "the queen of catastrophic kitsch".

Blackwell called Paula Abdul, the former pop star now best known as a judge on reality TV show 'American Idol', "a fallen fashion idol", and awarded her sixth place on his list, ahead of 'Basic Instinct' actress Sharon Stone ("an over-the-hill Cruella DeVille") and the "down and out in Beverly Hills" Tori Spelling, the former 'Beverly Hills 90210' star.

Another TV actress, Sandra Oh of 'Grey's Anatomy' is "layered lunacy from head to toe", Blackwell said, criticising her penchant for bangles and beads.

Rounding out the top ten is Meryl Streep, who ironically played the editor of a fashion magazine in 'The Devil Wears Prada'.

"From Streep you could weep," he said.

"Her beauty of a career cannot be denied, but that beast of a wardrobe is pure mother of the bride."

Those stars on the list were urged to follow the example of "fabulous fashion independents" like Beyonce Knowles, Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet, Barbra Streisand and Helen Mirren.

In the 1960s Blackwell was one of Los Angeles' top designers who created outfits for the likes of Nancy Reagan, Peggy Lee and Jayne Mansfield.

His list, which has skewered everyone from Elizabeth Taylor to Queen Elizabeth II, has become a tradition in Hollywood.
