The African National Congress (ANC) has come out in defense of Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan, saying the attack on the minister is meant to undermine the work of the state capture commission.
Gordhan testified this week about the extent of state capture at SOEs.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members called the minister a liar and labelled him the “biggest enabler of state capture”. The party also claimed that Gordhan’s daughter benefitted from multi-million rand tenders with several government departments.

he ANC’s Zizi Kodwa says the EFF is using Gordhan to attack the ANC and undermine the work of the commission.
“It’s not just about Pravin Gordhan but they are using his testimony to attack the integrity of this commission including victimisation and intimidating other witnesses that are yet to come before this commission.”
He says there is only one way to describe the EFF’s actions.
“We think this is an element of what we call Trumpism, and Trumpism thrives on three elements: fear, hate and race polarisation, insults and vulgar.”
Kodwa says South Africans must be united to defeat what he calls the “demon of Trumpism” before it undermines democracy.
Gordhan has challenged the EFF to hand over evidence to the commission, saying he won’t submit to bullying.
