World Elephant Day
August 12, 2018
If elephants were to disappear off the face of the earth, the ecosystem would change dramatically or cease to exist altogether. This might be a reality at the rate that things are going – around 96 African elephants are poached for their ivory every day, that’s one elephant every 15 minutes.
On World Elephant Day, Amarula will commission a temporary ice sculpture of a life-size elephant at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg. The ice sculpture will slowly melt away, dramatically symbolising the disappearance of the elephant population. Building on this concept Amarula plans on launching a limited edition bottle with will be available during the month of August.
The Amarula Trust and WildlifeDirect aims to raise awareness of how important these animals are to our ecosystem and why we should fight for them.
