Top Durban comedian Rory Petzer will attempt to do what arguably has never been done before. Rory, also the Executive Producer for East Coast Drive on East Coast Radio, plans to run an Ultra Marathon and do a comedy show in the same day.

Rory will run the 56km Old Mutual Two Oceans on Saturday 20 April and then do a comedy set at Cape Town Comedy Club that same evening.

“I ran my first ever Comrades Marathon last year and I survived, so I’m sure I’ll be able to tell a few jokes after this year’s Two Oceans. I’ll have 56km in which to write my material for the evening!” he says.

Rory says he’s pretty sure no comedian has ever run an Ultra Marathon in the morning and then performed on a stage that same day.

“In fact, I don’t even know of a comedian who has run an ultra-marathon! I’ve and asked around and everybody thinks I’m crazy for even trying, but I’ve signed up for both, so there is no turning back,” says Rory.

Rory is known for his high energy on stage and he is adamant the 56km run in the morning won’t rob him of the kind of performance his fans have come to expect.

“There is a long walk down the stairs from the backstage area to the stage. If I can make that journey without using the handrails, I’ll be fine! I’m sure I have nothing to worry about!”

Rory will perform his best material alongside a few other top South African comedians at the Cape Town Comedy Club, The Pumphouse, 6 Dock Road, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town on Saturday 20 April and Sunday 21 April.

“The show starts at 20h30! Come watch history being made!” Rory says.
