The Tshwane municipality council members are meeting on Tuesday to elect a new executive mayor at the Sammy Marks building in Pretoria.
This follows the resignation of former mayor Solly Msimanga who officially vacated his office on Monday.
Msimanga was elected by the coalition of opposition parties to lead Tshwane following the local government elections of August 2016. He resigned last month, saying he wanted to focus on his candidacy as Gauteng premier.
Two weeks ago the DA announced Stephens Mokalapa as the nominee for the position of the Tshwane mayor.
